Joey,
Thanks for the careful and well thought out counterpoints and uTube clips. I can tell that
you spent a great deal of time over the election cycle examining the issues. I watched all
the clips.
In my younger days, I cared little about politics. In fact, I might well have been
described by those who did care as a "bleeding heart liberal" anyway. But, life caught up
with me. Now a retired Army reservist, architect, father, and grandfather - I've learned to
see things a little more clearly, and certainly a little less naively than I used to.
I won't go into discussion about when this country started to accelerate it's modern day
unraveling, other than to say I believe it started in earnest during the George senior and
Bill C's administrations - more specifically with NAFTA....
But today, here's what I think:
No president today can withstand partisan "scrutiny" on issues like personality traits /
defining character and the like - mainly because they are human first above all else. And
every minute of their day is on Utube or network TV.
What I see in Obama (mostly by reading his books) is that he understands that "consensus
building" is crucial to leading this country out of crisis, and if possible in bringing the
country together again as a "united" nation.
I see him surrounding himself and his new administration by bringing in some of the best
minds including Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. And that may seem a bit odd, but
I believe he will be very bipartisan in his upcoming administration, because he understands
that that is the only way that this country can be "healed". Of course that may well lose
the "extremists" from both parties - but so be it.
I like the fact that he is starting out by being as transparent as possible in his teams'
planning (including via his website)... Can his upcoming administration solve all the
problems it has to deal with? Probably not. But, I believe he gives us the best shot at
it.
Let me say that I liked and respected McCain as well, but when he picked Palin ... he lost
soooo very many votes.
So we elected Obama. I will support him as best I can ... because I believe he will give it
his best effort, and it is the younger generation that elected him that will have to place
their future in his hands. It is their turn now to lead - and that is only "right".
Thanks for hearing me out, Joey.
