rethinking ... hindsight

“We” are all of us ... the “human race”. We are the kings and queens of our optimism, and of our pessimism. We proclaim, and we declare.

FORECLOSURES:

“A study released today shows 233,001 homes were affected, 8% more than in December. Of that total, 45,327 homes were lost to bank repossessions.“ CNN (Headliner today)

Today, like so many other days of late, we are told of what happened in January to so many families. They lost their homes. The numbers in January were a continuing increase statistically over the numbers in December. And, it is part of an upward spiral that may continue yet many more months.

We are the ghosts of our past. The decisions we made in times gone before, the decisions we made in good faith, more often than not, are being called into question. The consequences of those decisions now - seem so unfair.... Yet they are real.

creativity ... and ... melancholy ...

You know, ... I believe Eric Wilson's thoughts are generally true. I know that for me, my most personally satisfying 'works' (and again I emphasize 'personal') have come to me at times of deep and dark sadness. I look back now at some of the interpretive works (certain artwork, photos, and/or poetry, etc.) that I 'produced' during the 'lowest' times in my life, and I realize that I could not have 'created' them, but for the 'state of mind' I was experiencing at the time, but for the melancholy.... Some times, when I 'try' to be 'creative', ... I simply can not 'be' so. I think personal creativity ... is not simply a choice, but rather is born of circumstance. And when it comes to any of us, it simply takes precedence over all of our other needs or activities. It 'desperately' has to be accomplished right then and there ... lest we die.... right then and there... It becomes a mandate and not a 'choice'.... It is a 'voice' within us ... crying out to be consoled. And it is not 'profited', but rather it is extremely and solely personal....
