"Grief is the price ...

... we all pay for love" ... Gretchen Jackson - as she talked about the saddning loss of her horse, Barbaro, that had to be euthanized on Tuesday after he became hopelessly afflicted with laminitis. It is a sad day. He will be remembered. It is so true that we can come to love an animal as we love each other. Her statement on "grief" is a profound one.

searing winter sunsets ...

On a clear winter's evening, the sunsets can cause strange light rays that 'bend' around the things that interrupt its light. But, the coincidental 'silhouettes' contrasted can make the ordinary quite 'magical' ... and quite soothing at the same time.

... Nomadic souls

There have been dozens of seagulls around Bond park lake over the past few winters, but this winter has been warmer so far, and there are hundreds of seagulls there now. "Times ..., they are a changing." ...

a master navigator ...

Late Tuesday afternoon this week, I was on a hike around the lake at Bond Park. I had come to the heavily wooded area around the head waters of the lake, crossed the small wooden bridge and didn't actually see the Great Blue Heron that was fishing far up the feedwater creek. I was on the path that leads back to the main body of the lake, when I caught a glimpse of "his majesty" taking flight and carefully maneuvering his (or her) long wingspan over, under, and through the overhanging hazards, snags, and limbs surrounding the creek leading back to the lake. He seemed to know exactly where and when to time his wing strokes to avoid contact with the woody hazards along his perilous flightpath. As he moved by me, I had instinctively begun to pan my camera to catch up with him (in the viewfinder). I was lucky to have caught him with this one shot, as in another instant - he was gone.... In sunlight and in shadow, his grace is a striking memory. I do love these birds ...

On another note, my son and family surprised me for Christmas. In June, I'll be going to Yosemite National Park for several days. Needless to say, I'm really excited about that ... :-)

... maybe this year,

Maybe this ... is the year that we'll all come to pause and to rest ... in sunlight, in peace, in faith, and in harmony ... if only in our dreams ... and our hearts.
